HERMOSA REGION LACUSTRE

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country - it is due to its aquatic environments, both superficial and underground, originated by its karstic nature, framed in dense pine forests, holm oaks and mixed forests with the striking presence of bromeliads and orchids.

The lakes are "uvalas" that is to say, old cenotes that the corrosion of the limestone rock and the landslides have been uniting through time. Many of the bodies of water lack a denomination. Their number is uncertain, although they are said to be 59 lakes.

Famous for the colors of its waters, these are due to several factors, among which are the types of bottom soil, vegetation and refraction of light.

The visit takes place on two roads, the first leads to the grounds of the National Park itself, where are the lakes Esmeralda, La Encantada, Bosque Azul, Ensueño and Agua Tinta, surrounded by pine forests. Along with them there are some services and besides the possibility of making excursions to San Rafael, a natural arch of 40 meters high on a sink or ponder, where the small stream of water known as Paso del Soldado is submerged.

The other road leads to the lakes that the community coordinates, Cañada, Pojoj, Tziscao and Dos Lagunas, among others. Tziscao lake is one of the largest and deepest -45 m- and is already on the Guatemalan border. On its shores is a village chuj. There are shelters, dining rooms and rafts
