SOME ACTIVITIES IN THIS CITY

Among the sites of interest that we find here is the century XVII cathedral, a festive mix of Spanish Baroque architecture and naive indigenous art; as well as the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo, belonging to the same period, exhibits a beautiful classical and pure Baroque architecture. For most of the year, the surroundings of this convent are transformed into indigenous markets, where the Chamula women, dressed in their typical blue blouse and skirt and black sarape suits, offer a wide variety of garments and other textiles carefully made to hand. Near the church of Santo Domingo, you will find knitted items from Sna Jolobil, a name that means Casa del Tejedor, a gallery and store belonging to a cooperative of indigenous Tzotzil weavers.

In addition to being an important starting point and link for communication between the different regions of Chiapas (Comitán, Palenque, Amerindian localities, natural attractions, etc.); San Cristóbal de las Casas is one of the most important cities at cultural level, due to its colonial past, the beauty of its monuments, its historical role, traditions, gastronomy, its natural attractions and the wide range of tourist services make this ancient city, the tourist jewel of the State.

Na Bolom
It is an interactive house style cultural complex, equipped with a museum, restaurant, and even a hostel for travelers. Its value lies in being surrounded by an intact heritage, which is considered a national heritage. In addition, it is an experimental ground for some of the most important sociological and cultural works.

Originally built in 1891 with the idea of hosting a seminar, Na Bolom is located in the community of San Cristobal de las Casas, in the Highlands of Chiapas. The House has a multinational plant of 35 people and an international volunteer program.

Mesoamerican Jade Museum
Museum dedicated to the precious stone of the ancient Mesoamerican cultures, which was even more appreciated than gold and silver. Jade was a symbol of eternity, power and love. This museum is an area dedicated to exalting the beauty and history of the sacred stone, a symbol of regional mythologies, through collections of jewelry and art related to the eight main cultures of the Mesoamerican region.

Architecture of San Cristóbal
The whole city could be considered "an open-air museum", thanks to its buildings, squares and historical monuments, abundant and rich in history and style. Between them they emphasize, in the first place, the Cathedral of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Church of the Carmen and the Arc of the Carmen, the Church of San Cristóbal Mártir, all of the Colonial Mexico. In addition to the Ex-convent of Santo Domingo, the Auditorium of the School of Law (formerly San Agustín church), the Municipal Palace, La Casa de La Sirena, the Historical Center and the Theater of the city, as well as the Plaza " March 31st". A walk through the streets of San Cristóbal is already a reason to know this extraordinary city of Chiapas.

Amber is abundant in the region, and the Amber Museum, located in the Ex-convent La Merced, exhibits different types of fossilized resin, as well as the ways of extracting it.

Near San Cristóbal, there are the towns of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán, in which we find great samples of indigenous art and tradition, such as the Christian-indigenous rites that residents of San Juan Chamula perform within the town's church. These santería practices carried out within a catholic church are an object of fascination for the visitor, who once inside the enclosure can observe the coexistence of the symbols of the cross with magic potions, brandy and dead hens.
